Sila
eco-theatre | set design | USITT Design Expo 2014
Sila, the winning play of the Woodward International Playwriting Competition, takes place in Canadian Arctic, the realm of Nunavut. The story evolves with the issues of climate change and the crisis of disappearing polar bears as well as the native Inuit culture. The set constructed with recycled plastics to represent the human world in contrast with the soft shimmering upcycled fabric covered Arctic landscape. The plastic bottles also created a cold, icy texture. The blend of both organic natural elements as well as artificial manmade objects hinted of the drastic impact of humanities choices on the natural world.
